Zeus Hygia Lifesciences launches Metaberine, first green process enriched berberine using BioSOLVE Technology

Zeus Hygia Lifesciences introduces Metaberine, a berberine extract developed with BioSOLVE Technology to address bioavailability and dosage challenges in metabolic health management

Zeus Hygia Lifesciences has announced the launch of Metaberine, described as the first green process enriched berberine developed through its proprietary BioSOLVE Technology. The company stated that the extract has been developed to address the limitations of conventional berberine products by offering improved solubility, bioavailability and a quicker onset of action at lower doses.

According to global health data, the prevalence of sedentary lifestyles and poor dietary practices has contributed to a rise in metabolic disorders. Diabetes is now estimated to affect more than 800 million adults worldwide. Treatments such as GLP-1 receptor agonists have gained traction for their ability to improve glycaemic control and support weight management. However, their high cost and limited accessibility highlight the need for alternatives. Zeus Hygia Lifesciences has positioned Metaberine as a potential option in this context, noting its faster action at lower doses.

Berberine: Benefits and limitations
Berberine is a natural alkaloid found in plants such as Indian Barberry and has long been used to support metabolic health, cardiovascular function, and lipid and glucose metabolism. Despite these benefits, conventional extracts present challenges, including less than 2 per cent absorption into the bloodstream, the need for high daily doses ranging from 500 to 1500 mg, delayed onset of action, and gastrointestinal side effects such as bloating, nausea, and diarrhoea. Low solubility has also been identified as a factor limiting its therapeutic impact.

Metaberine: BioSOLVE Technology application
“Our proprietary BioSOLVE Technology, utilising a 100 per cent aqueous process, produces a highly uniform, porous powder with dramatically improved solubility and bioavailability,” said Dr Arunkanth Krishnakumar, Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Zeus Hygia Lifesciences. “This innovation allows Metaberine to deliver results faster, at significantly lower doses—200 mg per day versus the 500–1500 mg typically required with regular extracts—while reducing digestive discomfort.”

The company has identified key advantages of the extract, including enhanced solubility for improved absorption, a lower daily dosage for improved compliance, reduced gastrointestinal side-effects, and suitability for a range of applications such as capsules and sachets. Metaberine is supported by proprietary bioavailability data, with human clinical trials planned. Manufacturing takes place at Zeus Hygia facilities under recognised quality and safety certifications.

“With the global rise in metabolic disorders such as diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular disease, the demand for effective, natural, and safe interventions is higher than ever,” added Dr Krishnakumar. “Metaberine is our solution to that need—a next-generation berberine that redefines efficacy standards in the nutraceutical industry.”

Zeus Hygia Lifesciences has indicated that Metaberine is intended for B2B partners in the global health and wellness sector, including pharmaceutical companies, nutraceutical and dietary supplement brands, over-the-counter health product manufacturers, functional food and beverage brands, and contract formulators. The company stated that by providing a berberine extract with improved performance at lower doses, it aims to support the development of metabolic health products across these markets.
